Food Is Everywhere

You have started your New Years Resolution and have experienced 3 days of success! Everything is going as planned.  In a few weeks your clothes will fit looser, your hair will be shinier, nails stronger, skin will be glowing, and mentally you will feel great.

The next day you walk into the office and you notice one of your coworkers has brought in a fresh batch of homemade cookies; these cookies sure look good and smell even better.  You manage to muster up the willpower and walk past them.  As you check your e-mail your best friend wants to meet up for lunch, at your old time favorite restaurant.  This wouldn't be such a bad idea if you didn't have that birthday party to attend after work; where you know they will be serving your favorite DQ cake.  Suddenly, you start to feel overwhelmed and panic.  How will you survive your New Resolution with all this pressure to conform.  Food is everywhere.  We socialize around food, celebrate all major events and accomplishments, and reward ourselves with food.  Lets face it, food is Everywhere.  So what is the solution and how will you cope with the situation at hand?  Hear are a few tips and helpful ideas.

(1) Pack a cooler bag and plan your meals in advance

Preparation is key.  Pack a cooler bag full of healthy food for the day.  If you know exactly what you are going to eat and when, you will be less likely to eat on impulse.  People tend to be emotional eaters and consume (high fat, sugar, and salty) foods on impulse.  If you have a lunchbox filled with nutritious food for the day, you will be less likely to steer away from your plan. Choose fruit when you have a craving for a sweet food.  Fruit will satisfy this craving and hunger!

(2) Feelings of food are temporary - Fitness and longevity are forever.

Eating foods you crave will only satisfy that initial urge.  Eat that cookie and you will enjoy it, for all of that 10 seconds it takes to consume.  Stick to your plan and you can enjoy the whole day knowing you are one step closer to achieving your fitness goal.

(3) Remind yourself of why you have chosen this Resolution

If your goal is to look great in a bathing suit for your next trip down south, think twice about eating that DQ cake.  Small sacrifices now will pay-off in the long run. Remind yourself of what you are trying to accomplish.  Think positively!!!
