As I crossed the finish line in Stratford, at the Rotary Run for Mikinduri, a few things crossed my mind. First, I felt tired, second I felt great! Finishing in a time of 18:03 for the 5 km run, I was pleased with my results. It was just the spark I needed to remind myself why I love running so much. Why I love pushing my body to its limits.
Since 2009 (my final year of running with the ST.FX Cross Country Team) I have kept fit by running several times a week, and weight lifting every other day. However, since traveling for the past 5 months I have dedicated more time to running (for convenience sake) and less time to weight training. Running was great while traveling, I could do it anywhere, at any time!
From what I could gather the run for Mikinduri was a great success. The weather was perfect, and people of all ages came out to run either the 5k or the 15k.
Highlights of the morning included seeing my 53 year old father run the 5k in a time of 22:59 and a 12 years old boy finish in a time of 22:14. I was also blown away with Alex Bain's 15k time of 1 hour 51 seconds. All very impressive!!! Congratulations to everyone who participated and to those who came to show their support.
Let the training continue - My next race will be the PEI half marathon taking place October 15.
